What is SSL and why do I need it?

SSL is a security protocol that encrypts information put up by you on a website to a server. SSL or Secure Sockets Layer protects sensitive data from data theft and misuse. If your website requires sharing information of credit cards, bank details, usernames, passwords, email address etc. you need SSL to secure your data. If you see the green layer or a lock with https protocol on a website, it means they use SSL and are more trustworthy.
