What is ICANN?

ICANN is an international organization that is responsible for the safe, stable and interoperable networking interaction of the entities on the internet. ICANN performs responsible roles for generic (gTLD) and country code Top-Level domain name (ccTLD) system management, also shares the responsibility for the allocation of Internet Protocol (IP) address space, root server system management and protocol identifier assignment. ICANN’s structured role in the Internet’s naming system has played an important role in the extension and transformation of the Internet.
